FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: rod is pressed against jacket across specified section and clearances Wi between internal face of rod and surface of shell are measured to determine deformation of shell. Value εu of uniform tensile deformation of shell and value εbe of flexural strain are found by mathematical dependencies. Rod with supports is employed to determine deformation of internal surfaces. Deformations Wi and Wmax near structural units having form of shaping strips are measured along lines on shell emerging from centers of these shaping strips in radial directions and values εu and εbe of deformation are found by them. Rectilinear rod with length L L<R0/2, where R0 is radius of outer surface of long-length shell ) is used to measure long-length shells. Rod has supports positioned from middle of its length at equal distances l/2. Gear for realization of method comes in the form of rod that has two sections: first section is equal to length of tested surface, second section lnp = (0,8-1,2)lK is equal to length of pressing of rod against tested surface. Faces of rod are equidistant from generatrix of tested shell. Form of rod varies depending on type of tested shell.
