FIELD: petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: heavy hydrocarbon oil with considerable proportion of components having boiling temperatures above 565 C is subjected to catalytic hydroconversion to yield hydrocarbon oil containing components boiling below ca. 565 C. Process involves mixing heavy hydrocarbon oil with oil-soluble molybdenum compound, introducing resulting mixture into hydroconversion zone, introducing initial reactor gas into the same zone, and recovering thus obtained hydrocarbon oil from hydroconversion zone.
