FIELD: materials handling facilities; conveyors. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to brake installed on shaft of belt conveyor drum and can be used on heavy belt conveyors operating both for lifting and lowering the load. Proposed belt conveyor brake has supports secured on frame, brake disk mechanically coupled with drum shaft and auxiliary disk, operating springs and release mechanism drive. Disks are installed for engagement through their circular friction surfaces. Brake disk is installed for axial displacement along splines on free end of conveyor drum shaft arranged with clearance inside fixed support being spring-loaded relative to drum shaft flange and provided with two circular friction in form of external and internal rings arranged coaxially relative to drum shaft. Rings are paired and installed for engagement with corresponding rings of said brake disk and auxiliary disk. Auxiliary disk is secured on said support, and other auxiliary disk is arranged on rod with splines mounted coaxially relative to drum shaft and with clearance relative to shaft. Rod is installed in two supports for axial displacement in supports. Auxiliary disk is spring-loaded relative to second support from drum by means of compression springs arranged coaxially relative to rod and uniformly spaced over arc of circumference. Free end of rod is mechanically coupled with release mechanism drive. Internal pair of rings of brake disk is provided with cylindrical projections arranged over ring perimeter and oriented towards each other being arranged in tubular guides of brake disk and loaded relative to each other by ring compression springs also arranged inside tubular guides.
