FIELD: transport engineering; electric vehicles. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to current collectors of such vehicles as street cars or electric locomotives. Proposed current collecting element has metal frame on which carbon containing plate with contact surface and base is installed. Base is made in form of dovetail and it contacts with metal frame. Arc-shaped contact surface of plate is made with radius of 2-5 m and is provided with entry part with angle of tilting relative to plate base being 30-60 degrees. Height of plate in middle is 0.05-0.020 of radius of contact surface. Base in longitudinal section has form of trapezium with angle of tilting relative to horizontal equal to 5-15 degrees. EFFECT: improved wear resistance of current collecting element, increased service life of current collecting element owing to decrease of dynamic loads in current collector moving along contact wire. 2 cl, 2 tbl, 2 dwg
