FIELD: switched communication networks including public switched telephone networks. SUBSTANCE: method differs from prior art in that subscriber station call is identified by modem communication establishing flag whereupon call is assigned directly in case of established communication and within predetermined time interval, when communication fails, to subscriber station that does not use modem communication. Device implementing this method is distinguished from prior art by dispensing with additional command unit and calling subscriber station is selected first by turning on modem and establishing modem communication for connecting subscriber station in response to address pulse ; in case of modem communication failure call is addressed to subscriber station that does not need modem communication.
