FIELD: powder metallurgy, particularly, passivation of pyrophoric metallic powders for decreasing their chemical activity and stabilizing heat separation process. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of treating metallic powders with liquid passivation agent and disintegrating them. Disintegration of pyrophoric metallic powders is performed preliminarily until finely dispersed size fractions characterized by specific surface area 1,6-3,9•10-3 sq. m/kg in medium of hydroxyl-containing compound. Then powdered mass is treated by liquid passivation agent; the last is in the form of aqueous solution of surfactant-base detergent. Treatment is realized at agitating mass until obtaining uniform suspension. Prepared suspension is heated until temperature no more than that of oxidation beginning of pyrophoric powdered metal and it is dried until complete removal of moisture. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of passivation process due to improved quality of formed film and increased degree of covering metallic particles, increased temperature of beginning oxidation of powder of pyrophoric metal, possibility for controlling kinetics of heat separation process. 1 tbl, 2 ex
