SUBSTANCE: method and system for gas-shield electric arc welding of steel rails mutually spaced by interval for providing lengthwise gap between them comprises steps of making elongated steel barrier plate passing through gap near flange of rails; filling gap over barrier plate with melt steel of additive-metal electrode moved along predetermined path. Barrier plate has central portion introduced into gap and shelves extending in lengthwise direction arranged near central portion at lateral sides and outside it under flanges of rails at lower part of gap.
