FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to automatic electric arc welding. Gap is set between butts of rails to be wedded together. Strip is arranged below gap between rails to be filled with filler metal using relevant crystallisers. Filler metal feed rate is controlled by computer during welding. Said strip is made from electrically conducting material. Filler metal represents solid or powder wire and consumable electrode with nonconducting coat with length equal to height of welded rails plus 30-100 mm and with channel to direct said wire. In welding, said electrode is not moved in vertical direction. Said electrode is oscillated across said gap, reciprocates along said gap and oscillated nearby rail foot and head. Said gap is filled with filler wire metal, electrode and its coat metal in zone of rail foot, neck and foot.
EFFECT: efficient method of arc welding.
