FIELD: mechanical engineering; ignition systems of internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method, one detonation combustion sensor is provided for one group of cylinders. Control unit sets and puts out control values for ignition process selectively for separate cylinders. At least one cylinder, preferably that or those cylinders are chosen as control cylinder or cylinders LZ which are monitoring by detonation combustion sensor. Appearance of detonation or knocks in control cylinder KL-LZ initiates changing of ignition for later ignition ZW (later)) for all cylinders of group, while at appearance of detonation or knocks in one of other cylinder CZ change for later ignition is provided only for this cylinder. EFFECT: increased power output and provision of economical operating of engine. 8 cl, 3 dwg
