SUBSTANCE: for exhaust gas temperature control in internal combustion engines the fuel-air mixture supplied to the engine is changed by selective enrichment, depending on the respective change of the firing point towards late firing accomplished by the knocking control device, and the injection timing modification device comprises a modifying unit for each cylinder, which modifies the injection time for each cylinder calculated by the injection timing device, depending on the angle of change of the firing point towards late firing that is effective for the given cylinder. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of local thermal overloads of engine and exhaust manifold. 4 cl, 2 dwg
