Abstract RU 2185930 C1

FIELD: powder metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves placing cubic boron nitride powder on substrate of hard alloy; providing hot pressing under pressure of 40-60 kbar corresponding to thermodynamic resistance of cubic boron nitride; heating to temperature of 1,400-1,700 C; holding under pressure; reducing pressure to atmospheric pressure value and withdrawing substrate. Thickness of substrate does not exceed 0.25h, where h is thickness of composite material. Prior to hot pressing procedure, compressed pellet of working layer burden is preliminarily placed in lower part of graphite heater, and powdered hard alloy with grain size of up to 315 micron is spilled onto burden pellet. Hard alloy based on cobalt-bound tungsten carbide is used as substrate. Method allows high-quality caking of cubic boron with adhesion substrate layer to be produced and may be used in instrument making for furnishing with cutting tools operating under conditions of continuous and interrupted cutting of hard steel, cast iron, hard alloys and other difficult-to-cut materials.
