FIELD: purification of natural water and sewage. SUBSTANCE: belt-type thickener includes frame, drive unit, endless filtering belt whose upper part passes over supporting members-rolls, unit for control of filtering belt shift which is provided with limit switch, actuating member-braking control chamber, adjusting shaft, filtering belt tensioner, regeneration unit, sediment supply and filtrate discharge pipe lines and sediment distribution unit. Limit switch of belt shaft control unit is connected with solenoid-operated valve of water supply system which is connected by means of pipe with braking control chamber whose rod is articulated with adjusting shaft. Filtering belt tensioner is provided with tension shaft fitted with revolving half-axles on both ends; each half-axle is connected with its own gear rack thrown into engagement with gear which is connected with counterweight; gears of both half-axles are interconnected by means of common shaft; belt is brought in contact with limit switch of belt shift control unit; it also runs under preliminary shift control shaft.
