FIELD: manufacture of crucibles for smelting of metals and salts, reactors designed for operation under differential pressures. SUBSTANCE: method includes application of dross coating based on nonshrinking nonfoaming binder and finely divided carbon filler to surface of carbon-graphite article. Filler is used in form of graphite powders, powders of carbon composite material, colloid graphite, carbon black or their mixtures with fraction sizing not above 63 mcm. Article surface and dross coating are saturated with pyrocarbon and pyrocarbon is precipitated in from of coating. Saturation with pyrocarbon and its precipitation are carried out from gas phase at low partial pressure of natural gas, of 7-20 mm Hg, with methane content equalling, at least, 98% at temperature of 850-990 C, and time of contact of pyrolysis gas with article of 3-10 s. Prior to application of gross coating, article may be machined, and before saturation with pyrocarbon, it may be polished. Prior to application of dross coating, article may be subjected to finish saturation with pyrocarbon for 110-270 h at 950-990 C, p=7-20 mm Hg and time of contact of pyrolysis gas with article not in excess of 20 s. EFFECT: provided manufacture of sealed articles operating under differential pressures in liquids up to 110 atm, in gases up to 80 atm, in chemically aggressive media and at high temperatures. 11 cl, 1 tbl
