FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention describes a method of synthesis of poly-[2-methoxy-5- -(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) for electroluminescent devices where n corresponds to values of average molecular mass, Mn = 17 400-40 300 Da, average-mass molecular mass, Mw = 76 900-188 500 Da and intrinsic viscosity value [η] = 0.46-5.16 dl/g. Reaction of polymerization of 2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)- -1,4-bis-(chloromethyl)-benzene is carried out in low-polar reaction medium. Both polymerization and dehydrochlorination of polymeric precursor are performed using potassium alkoxide, preferably, potassium tert. -amyloxide. Method provides production of the completely soluble linear polymer MEH-PPV with controlled molecular mass and polyconjugation length. The synthesized polymer can be used for making films (in part, films in electroluminescent devices) and polymer has no chlorine in its composition. Invention describes also an electroluminescent device based on synthesized MEH-PPV that shows the decreased ignition threshold value, enhanced brightness in lower voltage values in currents, i. e. the enhanced quantum yield, decreased number of stages and their duration, excluding inert atmosphere in carrying out all operations of device making.
