MECHANICAL AND THERMAL PERFECTION OF NICKEL-CADMIUM-HYBRID BATTERIES, BATTERY MODULES AND BLOCKS OF BATTERIES Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

Abstract RU 2187865 C2

FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to mechanically and thermally perfected re-chargeable batteries, modules and battery systems cooled by fluid medium. Battery is prismatic in form with optimized relation of thickness to width and height which provides battery with balanced optimized properties as compared with prismatic batteries deprived of this optimized relation. Optimized thickness, width and height ensure maximum capacity and output power and eliminate side effects at same time. Battery frame allows expansion in one direction which is easily compensated by application of outside mechanical compression in this direction. Battery module includes means which couple/constrict under action of outside mechanical compression that is optimized to balance pressure directed outward because of expansion and to ensure additional compression directed inward to diminish distance between positive and negative electrodes raising by that total capacity of battery. Block 39 of batteries cooled by fluid medium includes frame 40 with inlets 41 and outlets 42 for flow of cooling agent. Battery modules are so placed in frame that they are distant from frame walls and one another and form passages 43 for flow of cooling agent along one surface of coupled batteries as minimum and at least one aid 44 for transportation of cooling agent. EFFECT: development of light, simple and non-expansive system of batteries with cooling. 25 cl, 29 dwg, 3 tbl
