FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns thermal (non-catalytic) pyrolysis of hydrocarbon feedstock, in particular petroleum feedstock, and its aim is to convert heavy hydrocarbons. More specifically, hydrocarbon feedstock, including heavy petroleum residues containing fractions boiling at temperatures above 350 C, is processed by the assistance of high-temperature heat carrier generated by way of burning fuel in oxygen medium. Feedstock is preheated to temperature above its melting point but below coke or tar formation temperature and introduced into the high-speed stream of high-temperature heat carrier fed into reaction zone of pyrolysis chamber, wherein hydrocarbons are heated to temperature between 700 and 25000 C at heating rate (4-5)•105 C/s. Process is carried out at pressures between 0.3 and 5.0 MPa determining thereby composition of generated heat carrier and composition pf pyrolysis products. The latter are further subjected to tempering. Process provides following products: synthesis gas, light hydrocarbons, fuel-destination hydrocarbons, coke, carbon black, and others.
