FIELD: thermal engineering; nuclear and thermal power plants using water as coolant. SUBSTANCE: method includes dosing coolant with aqueous solution incorporating alkali metal aluminate taken out of group: lithium, sodium, potassium of 1•10-2-1,0 mole/l concentration and hydroxide of respective alkali metal of at least 1•10-3 mole/l concentration. Solution is dosed in high-temperature section of coolant path. Ratio of molar concentrations of aluminum and bivalent iron is over 2. Such method of dosing reactant aluminum in circuits of nuclear and thermal power plants ensures reliable process control and effective suppression of general and local corrosion of power plant structural materials.
