FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: device has envelope accommodating filler that emits light when excited, excitation energy source, and reflector placed about envelope for partial reflection of filler radiation back into filler . The latter is capable of absorbing radiation and reemitting it at greater wavelength back into filler in absence of reflector; it has first spectrum with spectral radiation energy component in ultraviolet region. Re-reflection of radiation to filler results in that part of filler radiation leaves envelope with second spectrum of higher proportional fraction of radiation energy in visible spectrum compared with first spectrum. As an alternative device may be provided with optical element mounted at certain distance from envelope for reflecting unwanted radiation component leaving the envelope back to the latter through aperture in reflector and the latter may be made of material whose coefficient of thermal expansion is close to that of envelope material; reflector may be mounted at least partially in a spaced relation to envelope. EFFECT: reduced size of lamp bulb; enhanced light output in visible spectrum. 46 cl, 20 dwg
