FIELD: processes for applying protective coatings onto surfaces of metallic and non-metallic articles such as caisson-tanks. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of using as heater for heating surface of polymeric coating heat accumulation material in the form of monolithic plate preliminarily heated until temperature necessary for performing accelerated mode of vulcanization of polymeric coating; using as polymeric coating liquid Thiocol, organosilicon or organofluoric sealants. Heater being heat accumulation material is the form of filled vulcanized rubber. Heater includes one or several plates assembled to flexible packs. Plates of heat accumulation material have different dimensions and shapes depending upon arrangement and size of product to be repaired. Electric heating members connected in series or in parallel may be arranged inside plates of heat accumulation material. Heaters including plates of heat accumulation material are preliminarily heated in stationary condition by means of heating equipment or electric heating members arranged inside plates and then they are transported to necessary station. Heater is arranged onto surface of applied polymeric coating or directly onto material of article in order to provide heat supply to repaired zone of metallic or non-metallic article. Such method provides fire proofness because use of heat accumulation plates as heater allows not to use electric current source just near restoration place. It is very important at repairing caisson-tanks housing vapors and remainders of explosion hazard fuel. Heat accumulation plates are heated until stable temperature lower than that of fuel vapor bursting out. EFFECT: enhanced safety, improved efficiency of method. 10 cl, 1 tbl
