FIELD: medicine; medical engineering. SUBSTANCE: device has electrode set connected to therapy data port for connecting defibrillator device to a patient. When connected to the patient, the defibrillator device operates normal operation mode for analyzing patient electrocardiogram and, when needed, applies defibrillation therapy to the patient via the port unit. Communication cable is connected to therapy port unit for connecting the defibrillator device to additional unit like printer, modem, computer or other storage unit. When connected to an additional unit, the defibrillator device operates in data communication mode involving transmitting and receiving data from the additional unit via the therapy data port. Control cable is connected to the therapy data port for connecting the defibrillator device to control loading source. When connected to the control loading source, the defibrillator device operates in user control mode to enable the user to control defibrillator device operation. The defibrillator device has a feature for determining its connection to a patient port, additional unit or control loading source in automatic mode.
