QUICK-ACTING MULTIPURPOSE DIRECT-FLOW VALVE Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: fire-fighting equipment, particularly, locking-starting devices of automatic fire-fighting plants. SUBSTANCE: essence of invention consists in that rod is detachable and consists of spring-loaded piston and bushing mounted in valve body and having radial holes accommodating ball retainers whose protruding part enters annular bore of valve body, and bushing cavity accommodates spring-loaded piston having annular bore and whose side surface is engageable with ball retainers and its end face, with stimulating chamber communicated with valve pressure cavity through check valve. Said valve is multifunctional device and without connection may be used in control units of drencher and sprinkler water-foam fire-extinguishing plants and in quick-acting automatic fire-extinguishing systems. To provide for higher reliability, said valve has automatic drives (main and standby) operating independently of each other. Main drive is electrically explosion-proof with JP65 degree of protection from external effects. Standby drive is of hydromechanical type operating from readily fusible lock of rope system or from sprinkler and thermomechanical stimulators. Design of said valve excludes spontaneous operation caused by abrupt pressure fluctuations in water-supply system with engagement of boosting pumps or in case of water hammers. EFFECT: higher reliability of valve under abrupt pressure fluctuations in main pipeline due to rigid locking of disc gate by rod in closed position. 2 dwg
