FIELD: resin industry. SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for preparing sodium salts of sulfomethylyl esters of lignocarbohydrate materials that can be used as chemical additives for controlling properties of washing fluids employed in oil and gas hole drilling operations, for stabilizing cement mortars in building industry, and as reagents in ore flotation processes. Method consists in affecting preliminarily activated cellulose-based material with equimolar dichloromethane/sodium sulfite mixture in isopropyl alcohol at 65 to 135 C for 0.5 to 4 h.. Activation is carried out for 2,5 h with 28% sodium hydroxide solution at 80 C. Cellulose-based material utilized is lignocarbohydrate material consisting of cellulose, lignin, and hemicellulose. EFFECT: achieved complete use of lignocarbohydrate material, reduced cost of finished product, enabled wasteless technology, improved environmental condition, and expanded application possibilities. 3 tbl
