SUBSTANCE: felted article is produced from fibers, which are subjected to compaction so that during average service life of use thickness of article is reduced by less than 15% and compaction load is reduced to half the height by less than 40%. Method involves manufacture of article from felt; compacting article by means of compacting unit. Felted article may be used for mats, seating cushion or as ground contacting layer for sleeping bag.
