FIELD: nuclear power engineering; manufacture of fuel assemblies for nuclear reactors. SUBSTANCE: method involves installation of spacer grids with coaxial cells onto supporting surface, insertion of fuel elements in coaxial cells of spacer grids, and their locking in these cells; spacer grids are manufactured in advance from single sheet and provided with crosspieces between them, diameter of cell inscribed circle being greater than that of fuel element; spacer grids are bent over these crosspieces until they are aligned and form integral zigzag-shaped spacer-grid member; after fuel elements have been easily entered in coaxial cells they are locked therein by undoing spacer grids of zigzag-shaped spacer member until fuel elements come in contact with end walls in each cell and are locked in position. Projections made in cells have diameter of cell inscribed circle over projections greater than that of fuel element and they are used to additionally lock fuel elements in cells of spacer grids in inclined position relative to each spacer grid of zigzag-shaped spacer member.
