FIELD: diagnosis of wear of parts of engines, machines and mechanisms; mechanical engineering; aviation, railroad, water and automobile transport; estimation of state of engines by means of solid lubricant effect. SUBSTANCE: proposed method is based on use of appearance sequence at increase of operating time, first appearance of single-element particles and then complex particles consisting of several elements which are formed due to wear of body of engageable parts which are just particles of crumbling-out of respective alloys. Besides that, reference specimens are made for each part included in engine by crumbling respective alloys from which engageable parts are made; then, particles are compared and number of complex particles are determined according to results of this comparison; level of wear is estimated by appearance of single- element and complex particles of different nature, change of their number and relationship with operating time through identification of complex particles with alloys of units and parts.
