FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, technique of smelting of magnesium-containing alloying compositions. SUBSTANCE: method includes loading of charge into furnace and its smelting. Charge contains low-melting components in the form of magnesium-containing and magnesium-free semiproducts, which are preliminarily separately produced by selection of their composition by constitution diagram in compliance with alloying composition formula. Additionally introduced into charge are calcium-silicon alloy, rare-earth metals alloy, aluminum and salt mixture with melting temperature of 450-550 C. Composition has the following amounts of components, wt.%: magnesium-containing semiproduct, 20-30; calcium-silicon alloy, 10-15; alloy of rare-earth metals, 5-10; salt mixture, 3-4; aluminum, 0.5-2.5; magnesium-free semiproduct, the balance. The invention provides for production of complex multicomponent low-melting alloying compositions of high density, for instance, with copper, and also stability and safety of smelting process with possibility of use, in production of magnesium semiproduct of metallic magnesium of any kind, good assimilation of alloying composition by pig iron in inoculation and reduction of pyroeffect not only in process of alloying composition smelting but in pig iron inoculation as well. Magnesium-containing alloying composition is used in production of high-strength cast iron with globular and vermicular graphite. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 1 ex
