FIELD: locating defects in packaged articles or sheets on base of distribution of intensity or color of image in reflected beam and image in passing beam. SUBSTANCE: defects such as deformation, loss of color, foreign matter and dirt on article 16 packaged in sheets and sheet proper are revealed through forming pattern of distribution of intensity codes or pattern of color code distribution or by means of correlation calculations on base of image in reflected beam and image in passing beam or patterns of intensity distribution or color in them. Upper and lower light sources are switched on simultaneously for separate forming of image in reflected beam and in passing beam from received image for enhancing efficiency of check.
