SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of roll operating in stand; demounting roll and working its barrel by predetermined value; designating value of metal removal at working in depending upon number of stand in which roll is demounted where H - metal removal value along diameter of roll barrel, mm; N - number of stand along rolling direction in which roll was mounted during last operation period of mill. EFFECT: lowered possibility of occurring contact-fatigue type flaws on surface of roll barrel. 1 tbl
