FIELD: rolled stock production, possibly exploitation of rolls in mills for cold and hot rolling. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of roll operation in stand; then demounting roll and working its barrel by predetermined value selected in dependence upon quantity of rolled metal during last operation period and upon number of stand from which roll is demounted where H - value of metal removed along diameter of roll barrel, mm; Q - quantity of metal rolled during last operation period of roll, t; N - number of stand along rolling direction in which roll was mounted during last operation period. EFFECT: enhanced strength of roll due to lowered possibility of occurring of contact-fatigue type flaws on surface of roll barrel, reduced consumption factor of roll and cost price of roll. 1 tbl, 2 ex
