FIELD: cellular telephone communication systems. SUBSTANCE: receiver disposed in base station of cellular telephone network identifies location of base station and receives ephemeral data on Global positioning system and synchronization data, if any. Server computes auxiliary information with aid of data obtained and this information is used by Global positioning system receiver. Base station transmits auxiliary information to Global positioning system receiver residing in cellular telephone set operating within coverage area of base station. Global positioning system receiver of cellular telephone set uses auxiliary information to find location of cellular telephone set and transmits data on its location to cellular telephone network through cellular telephone set and base station.
