BED-SOFA TRANSFORMATION APPARATUS Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: furniture production. SUBSTANCE: bed-sofa has rigid carcass resting upon legs and telescopically transformable part connected to carcass. Carcass has rear wall, sides, and back, behind which cavity for receiving head rest is positioned, when bed-sofa is in "bed" position, tie rod provided with rollers and adapted for connecting sides at front end, and front lower tie-rod arranged between sides and imparting rigidity to construction. Seat section frame is adapted for smooth movement over rollers. Guiding rollers for head rest section, guiding rollers for bracket and guides for carcass are mounted on sides. Transformable part has head rest section with side rollers attached thereto for moving along guides on sides, frame with seat section attached to frame top, stops for fixing in extreme positions, and roller guides. Frame is pivotally connected to head rest section through brackets, on which rollers are mounted for providing smooth displacement of head rest section. Foot rest section frame is telescopically connected to seat section frame. Frame carries front and rear roller supports fixed for displacement of foot rest section over floor, roller support levers and connecting levers, which are pivotally attached to frame. Rear roller supports and levers for roller supports are joined through spring-type tie rods to provide for resilient folding of construction. Foot rest section is rigidly fixed on supporting lever of transformation mechanism. For providing transformation without use of manual force, a system may be built in, which comprises two electric drives. First electric drive is adapted for moving bed sections in horizontal plane and comprises electric engine with reducer, cable, telescopic tube system and device for moving said tubes. Second electric drive comprises electric engine with reducer and chain drive for actuating transformation mechanism levers. Such construction allows furniture to be transformed from "bed" position to "seat" position and vice versa without applying substantial manual force.
