FIELD: electrochemistry, particularly, processes occurring in liquid media under effect of electric current. SUBSTANCE: method includes producing of contact of two liquid immiscible phases with formation of interface. Located in each phase is at least one electrode. Electrodes are connected to current source and current is passed through interface to polarize it up to electric field intensity exceeding electric strength of barrier layer formed as a result of contact of phases and conduction of electrochemical reactions at interface and promoting electric break-down of barrier layer accompanied by microplasma discharges. Use of claimed method allows purification and sterilization of solutions, clothes and nonmetallic materials and liquid without use of solid electrodes, extractive recovery and separation, and synthesis of new materials, oxide powders and application of ceramic coatings to nonmetals.
