FIELD: metallurgical industry, mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention is attributed to facilities changing physical structure of ferrous and non-ferrous metals or their alloys by way different from thermal treatment or deformation, specifically, by means of electromagnetic fields. Technology involves treatment of metal melt by electromagnetic oscillations. Treatment is carried out by formation of single-polarity electromagnetic pulses of current with length under 1.0 ns and power over 1.0 MW. Plant for implementation of technology has metal crucible with metal melt, source of electromagnetic oscillations, electrode. Generator of single-polarity pulses with duration under 1.0 ns and power over 1.0 MW with two leads-out is employed as source of electromagnetic oscillations. Electrode comes in the form of metal rods encased in dielectric sheath and placed inside melt. One lead-out of generator is connected to metal crucible and its second lead-out is connected to one end of rods of electrode. Insertion of radiators directly into bulk of molten metal with simultaneous use of very short but high-power pulses in the capacity of electromagnetic oscillations makes it possible to raise efficiency of action of electromagnetic radiation on molten metal and to reduce cost of such treatment.
