FIELD: oxidation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: alumina-based catalyst contains (on conversion to oxides) 5-25% chromium oxide, 5-25% copper oxide, at least one additional compound of element selected from silicon, magnesium, titanium, zirconium, and cerium in amounts from 0.01 to 45% and optionally 0.01 to 2.0% at least one compound of element selected from alkali and alkali-earth metals, silicon, and iron. Catalyst preparation procedures: (1) chromium and copper compounds, aluminum hydroxide, and additional compound are mixed and resulting mixture is molded, dried, and calcined; (2) alumina carrier bearing and additional compound is impregnated with solution containing chromium and copper compounds, dried, and calcined. EFFECT: increased resistance to catalytic poisons and stability at the unchanged high catalytic activity and strength. 12 cl, 1 dwg, 2 tbl, 10 ex
