FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves continuously measuring signals U1(X)and U2(X) of two identical position gages having bell- shaped transmission characteristics set along movement trajectory, calculating coordinate function F depending on object position (X coordinate) in measuring object velocity. Function F is given by formula . Object motion velocity magnitude is found to be equal to a value being in direct proportional relation to the first derivative dF/dt of the mentioned coordinate function with respect to time. Scaling coefficient defined in advance is used in calculating velocity magnitude. The coefficient value is selected equal to distance l between the gages. The value of F0 of the coordinate function is saved at the moment of the object passes point on the trajectory corresponding to the first gage along the movement direction in measuring velocity magnitude.
