FIELD: hydrogenation-dehydrogenation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst contains, wt % (on conversion to oxides): chromium oxide, 12-23; zirconium dioxide, 0.1-5; oxide of promoter (additional component) selected from niobium, tantalum, and hafnium, 0.001-2; alkali and/or alkali-earth metal compound, 0.5-3,5; and aluminum oxide in the form of AlO3•nH2O, (n=0.3- 1.5) - the balance. Preparation procedure: alumina-containing compound of above-indicated formula with layered and x- ray-documented amorphous structure is impregnated with solutions of chromium, alkali and/or alkali-earth metal, and zirconium compounds and, additionally, with above-indicated promoter in catalytically effective amount, after which impregnated carrier is dried and calcined at 700-800 C.
