FIELD: organic synthesis catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst contains cupric chloride 3.5-8.0% Cu and aluminum oxide (base material) and is formed in the process of heat treatment at 660 C of layered-structure microspheric aluminum compound of formula Al2O3•nH2O wherein n=0.3-1.5 jointly with cupric chloride. Aluminum compound has amorphous, poorly crystallized or partially crystalline structure. Catalyst may further contain at least one compound of element selected from group including potassium, sodium, magnesium, boron, silicon, cerium, zirconium, or their mixture in amounts 0.05-2.0 % (calculated for metals). Catalyst is characterized by specific surface 120-250 sq. m/g, pore volume 0.2-0.4 cu.cm/g, and particle size 20 to 100 mcm. Extra elements are either contained in starting alumina or added to cupric chloride- alumina mixture simultaneously with preparation thereof.
