FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in single-cylinder and multicylinder pistons engines with cylinders arranged in line, Vee or radially. Proposed internal combustion engine contains at least one cylinder accommodating piston, and combustion chamber. Cylinder and piston are made ellipsoidal in cross section. Combustion chamber located in plane square to cylinder axis is made ellipsoidal on length exceeding half of its perimeter. Intake and exhaust valves are installed on line parallel to large axis of ellipsoidal part of combustion chamber. EFFECT: increased number of possible layouts of engine, increased power output-to-engine mass ratio. 4 dwg
