METHOD OF MANUFACTURE OF SOLID MULTI-LAYER ARTICLE BY PNEUMATIC MOLDING FROM SEVERAL LAYERS OF THERMOPLASTIC MATERIALS Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: processing sheet thermoplastic materials; manufacture of solid articles of complex shape, mainly panels for automobiles. SUBSTANCE: method includes manufacture of two stacks: one stack consists of deformable thermoplastic blank, layer of non-woven material and layer of thermoplastic adhesive; this stack is placed in mold at simultaneous heating to bring the blank to high-elastic state, after which second stack is placed on first stack in mold. Second stack consists of deformable thermoplastic blank and layer of non-woven material with layer of thermoplastic adhesive. During heating, adhesive is changed to gel-like state; both stacks are pressed together by means of upper and lower dies of mold. Deformable blank stack is made from wood-filled polypropylene and layer of non-woven material is made from dacron. Blank is heated to high-elastic state for 1-2 min per millimeter of its thickness, after which blank is placed in die and is deformed to required height. Then, stack in softened state is placed in lower die with dacron material downward. Preliminary cavities are made by forcing heated stack downward till it is pierced by cone-shaped nozzles located on lower die and then second stack is placed with dacron material downward and blowing is performed to obtain required sizes.
