FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: initial petroleum is subjected to atmospheric-pressure distillation to produce light petroleum fraction or light distillate and distillation residue. Light distillate is brought into contact with compressed hydrogen in presence of catalyst to perform first hydrofining operation. In this case, different light distillate fractions are subjected to common hydrofining. Distillation residue is then separated into light and heavy petroleum substances. The former is subjected to hydrofining in presence of distillate-refining catalyst to produce purified distillate, which is combined with purified distillate obtained in the first hydrofining operation.
