METHOD AND FACILITY ESTABLISHING KINETICS OF ELECTRIC OUTGASSING OF MELTS OF NON-FERROUS METALS Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method is related, in particular, to study of effect of treatment of alloys with electric current on kinetics of melt outgassing right in process of its treatment. According to method examined melt is placed in melting pot of thermostat, value of residual pressure in thermostat is decreased slowly till first bubble of gas appears on surface of melt. Values of melt temperature and residual pressure in thermostat are recorded and gas content in melt is determined by obtained data. Alternating and direct electric currents of normal and opposite polarity and density of 0.01-100.0 A/sq cm are passed correspondingly through melt in three additional melting pots. Oxidizing or inert gas atmosphere is formed for it in thermostat. Proposed facility is fitted with unit for electric power treatment of melt and unit providing oxidizing or inert gas atmosphere. Use of proposed method and facility make it possible to shorten time of study of effect of electric current on melt by factor of four, to raise accuracy of results of study by 10.0% and to increase their reproducibility by that. At same time expenses and labor input to study go down and consequently labor productivity of investigator goes up.
