SUBSTANCE: mobile communication system has circuit arrangement for establishing communications based on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) between controller and subsystem of base-station transceiver as well as between base station and mobile communication switching center. Device processing ATM cells for mobile communication system has ATM interface designed for receiving ATM cells transferred in dispersed manner or distributed among plurality of physical transmission channels and for recovering received ATM cells in the form of single stream of ATM cells; cells processor AY2A (ATM adaptive level 2) for switching at least one AY2A burst multiplexed in each ATM cell of ATM cell stream in compliance with routing information ensured upon call establishment, multiplexing of AY2A bursts switched according to ATM connections, and generation of internal ATM cell of same format as received ATM cells; and ATM switch for handling internal ATM cell in compliance with routing information. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of high- speed data transfer and multimedia traffic of various characteristics; enhanced efficiency of transmission in limited channel and passband. 14 cl, 13 dwg
