FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves charging manganese-containing metal burden, manganese-containing material mixed with slag-former, such as lime; melting; providing oxidizing period and deoxidation during reduction period; discharging melt. Manganese-containing material is low-manganese phosphide introduced in an amount of 5-10% by weight of metal scrap and used with lime at the ratio of 1:(0.2-0.6), respectively; combining oxidation period with gaseous oxygen blasting at the rate of 11.0-15.5 cu.m/t to temperature exceeding liquidus temperature by 400-450 C without drawing off of oxidizing slag from furnace; introducing steel melting wastes as cooling admixture in an amount of 5.0-10.0 wt.% of metal burden; providing deoxidation of slag during reduction period by using coke and ferrosilicon mixture in an amount of 2.0-2.5 kg/t of steel in the ratio of 1: 1. Method is used for melting manganese-containing steel in arc electric steel melting furnaces. EFFECT: improved quality of steel by reduced content of phosphor in steel and decreased contamination of steel with non-metallic inclusions, reduced production costs and improved absorbing of manganese through the use of manganese ore instead of manganese alloys. 1 tbl
