FIELD: transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to transportation systems with rail track structures akin to elevated and overhead road transportation system. According to invention, rail contains hollow tubular housing 1 with cover-on head 4 accommodating load-bearing member 2 made of prestressed load-bearing elements in form of wires, rods or wire ropes enclosed in envelope 3. Housing is made in form of spiral enclosing load-bearing member 2. Cover-on head 4 is secured on coils of spiral. Method of manufacture of such rail comes to the following: load bearing member 2 is formed from load-bearing elements and is used as mandrel in manufacturing rail housing. Said housing 1 of rail is made and load-bearing member 2 is arranged inside the housing by placing layer winding made of high-strength wire or tape onto surface of load-bearing member. EFFECT: reduced cost of rails and materials usage without affecting strength and carrying capacity of rail. 13 cl, 6 dwg
