FIELD: railway transport; permanent way maintenance and repair. SUBSTANCE: proposed machine contains first tie carrier designed for taking old ties and furnished with old tie lifting device, and second tie carrier designed for placing new ties on leveled up crushed-stone base. First and second tie carriers are provided with connecting device for split connection with oil tie lifting device. According to other design version of machine, old tie lifting device is connected with first and second tie carriers. Said old tie lifting device is made for re-placing from working position into non-working position owing to provision of drives. Peculiarities of proposed method are as follows: to change working direction of machine, device for lifting oil ties is removed from first tie carrier and is mounted on second tie carrier. Direction of transportation is changed for both carriers. Use of proposed machine makes it possible to change working direction bringing to minimum re-equipment work.
