FIELD: inorganic compounds technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing rhodium nitrate solution used in preparation of various-destination catalysts. Rhodium metal powder is converted by two-step chlorination. In the first step, chlorination is conducted for 4- 4.5 h while gradually raising temperature from 300 C to 659 C. To resulting product is added sodium chloride in double amount as compared to weight of metal utilized. In the second step, chlorination is conducted for 1- 1.5 h while gradually raising temperature from 300 C to 700 C. Resulting cake is leached with hot water. Boiling aqueous solution after leaching and boiling potassium iodide (taken in 10-20% stoichiometric excess) aqueous solution are combined. Rhodium triiodide precipitate is washed, filtered, dried, and dissolved in concentrated nitric acid in presence of hydrogen peroxide.
