FIELD: applicable for steam generation and can be used in direct-flow steam generators operating on fossil fuel. SUBSTANCE: the steam generator has a combustion chamber for fossil fuel, connected to which is a vertical gas conduit on the side of the flue gas through a horizontal gas conduit. The combustion chamber has a great number of burners, which are positioned at the height of the horizontal gas conduit. The length of the combustion chamber determined by the distance between the end side of the combustion chamber and the outlet region of the horizontal gas conduit equals at least the length equal to the product of the speed of the flue gas in the horizontal direction at a definite mean temperature of the flue gas and the time of fuel burn-out in the condition of full load of the steam generator.
