FIELD: analytical instrumentation engineering. SUBSTANCE: chamber has two compartments; one of them is evacuated and houses nonradioactive electron source; other one is reaction compartment accommodating electrode connected to positive pole of accelerating voltage supply. Thickness of partition between two compartments is smaller than quanta absorption length of X-ray bremsstrahlung built up under effect of electrons emitted by nonradioactive electron source but greater than track length of electrons. Best alternative of chamber is that where partition is made of insulating material whose curve illustrating coefficient of secondary electron emission as function of voltage accelerating electrons emitted by nonradioactive electron source has section within which coefficient of secondary emission is greater than unity.
