FIELD: rubber industry. SUBSTANCE: butyl rubber is obtained via isobutylene/isoprene copolymerization at lowered temperature in presence of Friedel-Crafts catalyst in methyl chloride medium to form solid polymer suspended in methyl chloride followed by degassing of reaction mixture. Process is distinguished by that, before degassing, reaction mixture is passed through hydrocyclone, while withdrawing stream from its peripheral zone, which stream is returned into copolymerization stage, and withdrawing stream from central zone of hydrocyclone to be routed to degassing stage. Initial copolymerization components are formed from at least one of the following mixtures: isobutylene/isoprene/methyl chloride blend; recycle hydrocyclone stream with above-indicated blend mixed in water-jet apparatus; above-indicated recycle hydrocyclone stream with recycle isobutylene/isoprene/methyl chloride product after degassing of rubber suspension mixed in water-jet apparatus immediately before feeding them into polymerizator. Catalytic solution is introduced into any stream returned into copolymerization stage or into polymerizator. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency. 2 dwg, 1 tbl, 5 ex
