FIELD: hydraulic engineering, erection of stepped water retaining walls protecting slopes of structures and banks of water basins and courses against destruction by water and ice. SUBSTANCE: stepped water retaining and protective structure includes retaining walls placed over length and made of interjoined members of angle section which are arranged in stories on fill-up soil with formation of stepped face surface of structure interacting with water in water basin or water coarse. Novelty of invention is that horizontal edge of step between retaining walls of two adjacent stories is formed by fill-up soil on which additional members are positioned transverse to step. Each member is joined with one end to upper part of retaining wall of lower story and with other end-to lower part of retaining wall of upper story. Face edge of step deviates aside towards fill-up soil by angle α, which value satisfies relation tgα>μ where μ- is friction coefficient between face edge of step and ice in basin or water course. EFFECT: simultaneous involvement of members of all steps of structure in work under action of ice load on one of them, reduced load on members of structure both from ice and from fill-up soil. 5 cl, 5 dwg
